Who Is Wayuką́?

Meku: (Welcome)
Wayuką́, an Indigenous and woman-owned business based in Louisville, Kentucky, was founded by Anna M. Asbury, an enrolled member of the Saponi-Catawba Nation of the Ohio Valley.

Originally formed in 2016 under the name Chained Dolls, Wayuką́’s vision hasn’t changed. Having a strong DIY work ethnic, she focuses her handmade and digital designs on her ancestry (Yesą́, German).

When not crafting/designing, she writes poetry, crime and horror stories under the name Rena Aliston, creates abstract art under the name Vexenwraith, and enjoys archery, gardening, genealogy and spending time with her family.

MISSION

Wayuką́ is a company built around ancestry.
Heritage, culture, self-respect, and pride are the cornerstones of everyone’s foundation.
With this foundation comes an unbreakable connection with family and Mother Earth.

Wayuką́’s mission is to empower people to embrace the beauty and strength
of their ancestry (culture, history, and original spiritual practices).

Wayuką́

Wayuką́ (pronounced wah-you-kahn) is a Yesą́:sahį word meaning “Roots”. Yesą́:sahį is the language of my people, Yesą́ (Saponi), and means the speech of the people.

The official logo consists of turquoise text and brown roots. Turquoise is associated with creativity, balance, and nature. Brown is associated with being grounded, stability, and humility. Roots symbolize stability.
